Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck twice late to take a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
